Anna Goebel is the owner of
Sport Horse MARKETPLACE, and is editor, publisher, and designer. "I began publishing in 1994 with no formal training or background at all, or I would have known better! It was a steep learning curve, kind of like going to school full time and working full time put together." Since then, she has developed "a decent amount" of expertise for the different aspects of publishing and design work.
Anna began publishing with
Midwest SportHorse Journal, and a year later started the
National Sport Horse Sales List. Publishing "took over my life to the point where I ran out of time to ride. I am proud to say that the Journal was loved by many, but, sadly, not nearly enough to break even financially, so I ended it in 2002 after eight years." The
NSHSL then took off, and has almost tripled in size since then.
In 2005 the name of the publication was changed, to
Sport Horse MARKETPLACE. "We found that '
National Sport Horse Sales List' may be descriptive, but most people can't remember it. It's too long and just a bit boring. I think
Sport Horse MARKETPLACE is much more interesting, and friendlier - and I believe that reflects how we do business.
"My graphic design business,
Freestyle Graphic Design, grew out of the design work I have done for advertisers in the two publications, and has expanded to include many kinds of design projects for national as well as regional and local clients." Anna has done logo designs, catalogs, print ads, photo shoots, flyers, business cards, and other projects for many clients including Tally Ho Products (Massachusetts), Tim Holekamp (Missouri, owner of Trakehner stallion Windfall, who won Team Bronze in Eventing in the 2004 Olympics), Ken Borden (Illinois, who had four stallions pass the 100-day test in 2004), Linda Tellington-Jones' TTEAM (Arizona), and others.
Anna was also a USEF Technical Delegate for dressage for over ten years, and has recently taken up kayaking. "I have a husband, two children, three grandchildren if you count the grandpuppy and grandkitten - I do! - a cat, and a garden, which are the light of my life.
"I remain profoundly grateful to all the people who have liked what I have done and asked for more."
Heather McManamy, Office Manager at Sport Horse MARKETPLACE, started at the end of 2007. She will be handling phone calls when she is here on Wednesdays and Fridays, so you may "meet" her if you call on those days. She will also handle Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable, manage our mailing list, and be the Shipping department as well.
Heather may be known to some of you as the photographer of
Short Horse Studios. An excellent photographer and graphic designer, her photography and design work have appeared many times in
Sport Horse MARKETPLACE.
"I have been involved in the horse industry for over twenty years, and have been a photographer since 2001. This is my lifestyle, and not just my job. Because photography is a visual medium, not only can I create an educational opportunity for myself to learn more about sport horses, I can show other folks the beauty of what they have and do. That's really rewarding. I greatly enjoy talking shop with other horse people, and am excited to join
Sport Horse MARKETPLACE and gain the chance to chat with people from all over the country about their horses. I am also a Dressage Queen and jump occasionally on my Arabian gelding, Baylee. I plan to show (and survive!) Dressage and possibly Eventing."
